Equine-Assisted Activities and Therapies Programs

Contact us

Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies (EAAT) are structured, facilitator-led sessions working with horses that utilize innovative techniques in counselling, psychotherapy, mental health, coaching, and other personal growth interventions.

EAAT is steadily growing as a validated and recognized approach to overcoming mental health challenges such as trauma, abuse, post-traumatic stress injuries (PTSI’s), occupational stress injuries (OSI’s), depression,  grief and anxiety. These activities are also beneficial for social-emotional learning and life skills development.

We offer programs based on the Equine-Assisted Growth and Learning Association (Eagala) model, the TA Method model, and the Equine-Assisted Learning Model.

Equine-Assisted Therapy

Both the Equine-assisted therapy (EAGALA), and the TA Method model, both also known as horse therapy, take a distinct approach to professional mental health and personal development based on the scientific concept that we learn best by doing.

Individuals are empowered through personal and physical experiences that are led by our certified facilitator. The hands-on approach combines personal experience with intellectual understanding, providing solutions that are deeper, more profound, and longer lasting.

The EAGALA model is an innovative, ethical set of best practices that builds on the human/horse connection to help people learn more about themselves and to use that learning to change their lives.

Equine-Assisted Learning

The Equine-Assisted Learning model focuses on developing and strengthening social-emotional and essential life skills through programs guided by our facilitator facilitated programs where the horses are teachers. It is based on a BUILDING BLOCK™ program that builds on the life skills practiced in previous experiential sessions through activities with the horses.

Our professional, customized sessions are offered as individual programs, along with cost-effective family and group programs.

Programs are developed around unmounted activities, however, riding lessons can also be arranged by request. Our programs meet the requirements of the equine, health and social services industries.

Benefits of teaming with horses for therapy

Programs for people of all ages, abilities and walks of life

Benefits of teaming with horses for therapy

  •  Horses react to stimulus; they provide instant and honest feed back on how a person is feeling. They are considered living bio-feedback machines.

  • Horses are non-judgmental, accepting a person as they are, at that particular time and day.

  • Horses continuously evaluate their surroundings and the human with whom they are interacting. This provides an opportunity for the handler to develop leadership skills and to see the immediate response of positive body language on another being.

  • This allows a certified facilitator to observe the non-verbal communication of the horse and translate the behaviour to guide the learner to the objective of the exercise.

  • This style of learning greatly enhances the retention and understanding of learned skills, enabling the participant to transfer the learned skills into their everyday life.
